Voice Change: Rules and Examples

Voice শব্দের বাংলা অর্থ হল বাচ্য। Voice হল ক্রিয়ার এমন প্রকাশভঙ্গি যার মাধ্যমে কোন বাক্যের subject কাজটি করছে/করেছে/করবে নাকি কাজটি subject দ্বারা করা হচ্ছে/হয়েছে/হবে তা বুঝায়।

Voice refers to how a verb is formed to show the relationship between the subject and the action being described. In simpler terms, Voice Change tells us whether the subject performs the action (Active Voice) or is acted upon (Passive Voice).

আরও সহজ করে বলতে গেলে, একই বাক্য- একই অর্থ শুধু বলার বাচন ভঙ্গি আলাদা। এই হল ভয়েস বা বাচ্য।

যেমনঃ She opened the door. (সে দরজাটি খুললো) এবং The door was opened by her.(তাকে দিয়ে দরজাটি খুলানো হল) এই দুটি বাক্যের অর্থ কিন্তু একই। শুধু বলার ধরন আলাদা।

১ম বাক্যটিতে Subject সক্রিয় বা Active এবং ২য় বাক্যে Subject নিস্ক্রিয় বা Passive. এই ঘটনার উপর ভিত্তি করে ভয়েস কে দুই ভাগে ভাগ করা হয়েছে।

Types of Voice

ক্রিয়ার ভঙ্গি বা Voice হলো ক্রিয়া কীভাবে বিষয়ের সাথে সম্পর্কিত তা নির্দেশ করে। ইংরেজিতে ২ ধরণের Voice রয়েছে। এগুলো হলঃ

• Active Voice
• Passive Voice

এবার আমরা Active Voice ও Passive Voice নিয়ে আলোচনা করব। এবং Voice Change সম্পর্কে বিস্তারিত জানব।

Active Voice:

যে বাক্যে সাবজেক্ট নিজে সক্রিয়ভাবে কাজ সম্পাদন করে তাকে Active Voice বলে।

Active Voice-এ, subject verb-এর action সম্পাদন করে। Subject বাক্যের শুরুতে থাকে এবং verb-এর tense নির্ধারণ করে। Object (যদি থাকে) বাক্যের শেষে থাকে। অর্থাৎ, Active Voice এর Structure হবে এমনঃ Subject + Verb + Object.

উদাহরণঃ The boy is reading a book. (Subject: the boy, Verb: is reading, Object: a book)

Passive Voice:

যে বাক্যে সাবজেক্ট নিজে সক্রিয়ভাবে কাজ সম্পাদন করেনা তাকে Passive Voice বলে।

Passive Voice-এ, subject verb-এর action দ্বারা affected হয়। Subject বাক্যের শুরুতে থাকে, কিন্তু verb-এর tense নির্ধারণ করে না। অর্থাৎ, Passive Voice এর Structure হবে এমনঃ Object + be verb + verb এর past participle+ by+ subject.

লক্ষ্য করুনঃ Active Voice এর Object Passive Voice এ এসে Subject হয়ে যায়।

উদাহরণ: The book is being read by the boy. (Subject: the book, Verb: is being read, Object: the boy)

Voice Changing

Voice Changing এর ক্ষেত্রে কিছু নিয়ম মনে রাখতে পারলে এটি একদম সহজ মনে হবে।

Present Tense এর Voice Change

1. Present Indefinite Tense: Present Indefinite Tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে active থেকে passive Voice এ পরিবর্তন করার rule হলঃ am/is/are + verb past participle

• Active: He writes a novel.
• Passive: A novel is written by him.

2. Present Continuous Tense: Present Continuous Tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে active থেকে passive Voice এ পরিবর্তন করার rule হলঃ am being/is being/are being+ verb past participle

• Active: My mother is carrying a bag.
• Passive: A bag is being carried by my mother.

Past Tense এর Voice Change

1. Past Indefinite Tense: Past Indefinite Tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে active থেকে passive Voice এ পরিবর্তন করার rule হলঃ was/were + verb past participle

• Active: She painted a beautiful picture yesterday.
• Passive: A beautiful picture was painted by her yesterday.

2. Past Continuous Tense: Past Continuous Tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে  active থেকে passive Voice এ পরিবর্তন করার rule হলঃ was being/were being + verb past participle

• Active: They were cooking dinner when I arrived.
• Passive: Dinner was being cooked by them when I arrived.

3. Past Perfect Tense: Past Perfect Tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে  active থেকে passive Voice এ পরিবর্তন করার rule হলঃ had been + verb past participle

• Active: He had finished his homework before the movie started.
• Passive: His homework had been finished by him before the movie started.

Future Tense এর Voice Change:

1. Future Indefinite Tense: Future Indefinite Tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে  active থেকে passive Voice এ পরিবর্তন করার rule হলঃ Shall be/ will be + verb past participle

• Active: I will visit my friend’s house.
• Passive: My friend’s house will be visited by me.

2. Future Continuous Tense: Future Continuous Tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে active থেকে passive Voice এ পরিবর্তন করার rule হলঃ Shall be being/ will be being+ verb past participle

• Active: I will be doing my assignment.
• Passive: My assignment will be being done by me.

3. Future Perfect Tense: Future Perfect Tense-এর ক্ষেত্রে active থেকে passive Voice এ পরিবর্তন করার rule হলঃ Shall have been/ will have been+ verb past participle

• Active: We will have completed the project by tomorrow.
• Passive: The project will have been completed by us by tomorrow.

Imperative sentence এর Voice Change

Imperative sentence বা আদেশ বাক্যগুলোকে Passive Voice-এ পরিবর্তন করার জন্য বিভিন্ন পদ্ধতি ব্যবহার করা হয়। নীচে কয়েকটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নিয়ম তুলে ধরা হলো:

1. “Let”-এর ব্যবহার:

• Active: Open the door.
• Passive: Let the door be opened.

2. “Have”-এর ব্যবহার:

• Active: Please close the window.
• Passive: Have the window closed, please.

3. “Get”-এর ব্যবহার:

• Active: Make sure the computer is turned off.
• Passive: Get the computer turned off.

4. “Be”-এর ব্যবহার:

• Active: Silence your phone.
• Passive: Your phone should be silenced.

5. “It is recommended/ advised/ required/ etc. that”:

• Active: You must study hard.
• Passive: It is recommended that you study hard.

6. “You are requested to”:

• Active: Please be quiet.
• Passive: You are requested to be quiet.

7. Let যুক্ত Imperative sentence:

• Active: Let them finish the work.
• Passive: Let the work be finished by them.

8. Please/ kindly যুক্ত Imperative sentence:

• Active: Please water the plants.
• Passive: You are requested to water the plants.

Imperative Sentence-এর Active থেকে Passive Voice-এ পরিবর্তন করার ক্ষেত্রে কোন পদ্ধতিটি ব্যবহার করা হবে তা নির্ভর করে নিম্নলিখিত বিষয়গুলোর উপর:

• বাক্যের ধরণ (যেমন, সাধারণ আদেশ, অনুরোধ, পরামর্শ ইত্যাদি)
• বক্তার উদ্দেশ্য (যেমন, আদেশ দেওয়া, অনুরোধ করা, পরামর্শ দেওয়া ইত্যাদি)
• বক্তার এবং শ্রোতার মধ্যে সম্পর্ক (যেমন, আনুষ্ঠানিক, অনানুষ্ঠানিক, ঘনিষ্ঠ ইত্যাদি)

উদাহরণ:

• Active: Please help me with the project.
• Passive: I would appreciate it if you could help me with the project.

Passive Voice-এর ব্যবহার বাক্যকে আরও সুন্দর করে তোলে।

আরও কিছু Voice Change

Going to যুক্ত বাক্য: বাক্যে Going to থাকলে active থেকে passive Voice এ পরিবর্তন করার rule হলঃ am/is/are going to be+ verb past participle

• Active: They are going to build a new house.
• Passive: A new house is going to be built by them.

Double Object যুক্ত বাক্য: বাক্যে Double Object থাকলে যেকোনো একটি object-কে subject হিসেবে নিয়ে active থেকে passive-এ রূপান্তর করা যায়।

• Active: She showed him the new dress.
• Passive: The new dress was shown to him by her.”
